Periodic Inspection and Test of
Electrical Installations

Datel Electrical can carry out electrical safety surveys and
portable appliance testing helping you become fully compliant
with local authority and insurance requirements. Don't let your
property suffer from fire damage, or yourself and family become
injured through neglect and lack of of electrical maintenance.

What happens during a Periodic Inspection?
A series of visual checks are carried out on the electrical installation.

Circuit breakers will be checked to ensure they are of the
correct type and rating to protect the outgoing cable.

The cables will be checked for current carrying capacity and
voltage drop. Signs of damage, burning etc. will be looked for.

10% of all sockets, switches etc. are opened up and inspected.
If there are any non-compliance's found then all of the
accessories are then checked.

The Inspection is then followed by tests:

100% of the installation is tested.

Several electrical measurements are recorded on the report
including continuity of circuit protective conductors, main and
supplementary earth bonding, continuity of ring final circuit
conductors, insulation resistance, polarity, earth-fault loop
impedance, RCD tests including trip time in milliseconds,
correct operation of switches and isolators, prospective fault
current.

The installation is then declared satisfactory or unsatisfactory.

Many installations are found to be satisfactory but are to older
regulations and would benefit from being upgraded. If this is the
case then we would advise you of the best way to comply with
current standards, and provide an estimate for further electrical
works.
Maximum periods allowed between periodic inspections:

- Rented Properties 5 yrs
- Commercial Installations 5 yrs
- Industrial Installations 3 yrs

All houses should have their
electrical systems checked at
least every ten years and PIR’s
are advisable when buying an
property.

House / Flat (1-2 bed) -
£100* + VAT
House / Flat (3-4 bed) -
£130* + VAT

*Testing prices are based on properties
having non-electrical heating systems
and no more than 8 circuits in total.
